Finally got around to editing the video clips from our trip back in the first week of October. My friend does a sport bike trip to the tail every year with a group of guys, but this year one backed out so I joined in the fun.
Even in the pouring rain all day and mid 50 degree temps, IT WAS AWESOME. Contrary to the music no laws were broken, all riding was performed by professionals on a closed course......
Our route, 120 mile loop consists of the Tail of the Dragon and Cherohala Skyway
3 guys on sport bikes, one guys dad on a cruiser, and me on my supermoto

Fun fact: I dumped my bike a mile or so into the tail of the dragon, had to ride through the rest of it without a right foot peg to get to the nearest shop, which is Wheeler’s. Any one who rides the tail should stop at this guys shop, he’s a hoot. A couple of his quotes from our time at his shop: “It ain’t a crash unless there’s a bone sticking out, everything else is just a mishap” and “There’s plenty of off road trails around here if you’re faster than the rangers”

Luckily no one had their handlebars touch the ground on this trip. The weather made it sketchy enough as it was.

Yea, my mishap was a combination of bad luck and panic. It hadn’t rained there for a few weeks leading up to our trip, the first day we are there it’s pouring. We head to the tail anyways and by the time we get there the sun’s out and it’s starting to dry up. The corner I crashed on was still wet and I came in a bit hot so I stood it up and hit the brakes, unfortunately I hit an oil slick so my front wheel locked up and slid. When it hit the end of the oil the tire grabbed and I did an endo and fell on my side as the bike came back down.

30 years, but I didn’t start posting on Jalopnik until around 2010.

You missed the dragon news and memes back in the early “star commenter” days. Jalopnik was truly great in 06-10. Not every duffus with a Kinja account could comment.
And he has nothing to do with the tail. All ‘bout that dragon.
